Coated Doesn't Mean Invincible
A professional ceramic coating is the best paint protection you can buy in Western New York—but it is not a force field. It resists salt, grime, and UV dramatically better than bare clear coat, and it makes washing far easier. To get the full multi-year life out of it, though, it needs the right care.
Washing a Coated Vehicle
- Skip the brush tunnels. Abrasive brushes can mar even a coated surface. Hand wash or touchless only.
- Use pH-neutral shampoo. Harsh detergents degrade the coating's hydrophobic top layer over time.
- Wash regularly anyway. The coating keeps salt from bonding, but you still want it rinsed off—especially during mid-winter thaws.
- Dry with clean microfiber. Hard water spots can mineral-etch on top of a coating if water dries in the sun.
Winter Care for Coated Cars
This is where WNY owners win big. Salt and brine wipe off a coated car with a fraction of the effort, ice releases more easily, and spring decontamination is dramatically gentler. Rinse the vehicle (including wheel wells) every couple of weeks when temperatures allow, and book a maintenance wash after major storms.
Annual Checkups
Once a year, have the coating professionally inspected and decontaminated. We remove any bonded iron and mineral deposits and apply a topper that refreshes the hydrophobic behavior. Think of it as the coating's oil change—a small service that protects a multi-year investment.
Signs Your Coating Needs Attention
- Water stops beading and starts sheeting flat in patches
- The surface feels rough after a wash (bonded contamination)
- Visible water spots that a normal wash won't remove
Catch these early and the fix is usually a decontamination and topper—not a re-coat.
